Tras la renuncia de Rivadavia y el breve paso de Vicente L\u00f3pez y Planes por la presidencia, la figura de un ejecutivo de unidad desaparece de las provincias unidas. En este contexto, la capacidad econ\u00f3mica de Buenos Aires comienza a hacerse valer. Pero no todo es dinero, y el liderazgo pol\u00edtico desde el interior de la provincia lleva a Juan Manuel de Rosas a la gobernaci\u00f3n de la provincia, desde donde domina el quehacer nacional hasta 1852. Desde sus propias filas surge un nuevo l\u00edder, Justo Jos\u00e9 de Urquiza, que lo vence en Caseros y logra unir a la confederaci\u00f3n y darle una Constituci\u00f3n, aunque con una Buenos Aires en rebeld\u00eda.
