Con la llegada de la Alianza al poder y la banda en el pecho del m\u00e1s porte\u00f1o de los cordobeses, el mandato de las urnas era claro: la convertibilidad es de nuestro agrado, por favor no la toquen, pero corrijan todo lo dem\u00e1s para volver a crecer. Esto era f\u00e1cil de decir y dif\u00a1cil de hacer, ya que la Argentina se encontraba en recesi\u00f3n y creciente d\u00e9ficit de las cuentas p\u00fablicas. Este c\u00f3ctel no se resolvi\u00f3 durante el corto mandato de Fernando De la R\u00faa, que en sus dos a\u00f1os al frente del Poder Ejecutivo vio su alianza resquebrajarse, su vicepresidente renunciar y las denuncias de corrupci\u00f3n, aquello donde deb\u00edan destacarse en suprimir, crecer. Hacia fines de 2001 la inmanejable situaci\u00f3n para el gobierno lo llevo a su ca\u00edda, en un ambiente de fuertes protestas sociales y muertes. Pese a la tormenta, las instituciones resistieron el embate. Ley de acefal\u00eda mediante, y tras un intento fallido de estabilizaci\u00f3n con el gobierno con Rodr\u00edguez Sa\u00e1 a la cabeza, asumi\u00f3 Eduardo Duhalde, vencido en 1999, que decidi\u00f3 dar de baja el corset de la convertibilidad como primer paso para enfrentar el caos y encauzar la situaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica, econ\u00f3mica y social.
