El golpe de Estado de 1966 se present\u00f3 como de una naturaleza distinta a los anteriores. Su objetivo principal ya no era plantear un par\u00e9ntesis para un eventual llamado a elecciones, sino la imposici\u00f3n por parte de las Fuerzas Armadas de una serie de tiempos a la pol\u00edtica nacional. Cu\u00e1nto demorar\u00edan estos tiempos en presentarse era, en un principio, un enigma. Al obtener la banda presidencial, Juan Carlos Ongan\u00eda se encontraba rodeado de un halo de caudillo, capaz de resolver todos los problemas que acosaban al pa\u00eds en todos sus \u00e1mbitos. Sin embargo, esta imagen pronto comenzar\u00eda a resquebrajarse y la especie de pasi\u00f3n onganiana tendr\u00eda corta duraci\u00f3n, y estallar\u00eda por los aires en los grandes movimientos sociales que tendr\u00edan en el Cordobazo su punto m\u00e1s alto. Tras el secuestro y muerte de Aramburu, las credenciales de orden de Ongan\u00eda estaban definitivamente vencidas y la Junta lo reemplaz\u00f3 por Levingston, un poco con la idea de tener un presidente pantalla. Como ha sucedido ya otras veces, al llegar al poder Levingston se mostr\u00f3 mucho menos manipulable, y present\u00f3 su propia agenda de gobierno, que fue prontamente descartada, junto con su presidencia. Con el ascenso de Lanusse a la presidencia comenz\u00f3 una etapa de transici\u00f3n y apertura a los partidos pol\u00edticos y, nuevamente, a la gran cuesti\u00f3n de los \u00faltimos casi 20 a\u00f1os: qu\u00e9 hacer con Per\u00f3n y el peronismo.
