La llegada a la presidencia de Alfons\u00edn se dio en un contexto que presentaba m\u00faltiples desaf\u00edos. Por un lado, la derrota en elecciones libres del principal partido pol\u00edtico, el peronismo, reconfigur\u00f3 por s\u00ed mismo el escenario de expectativas institucionales. Por el otro, las Fuerzas Armadas continuaron administrando una importante cuota de poder y la econom\u00eda present\u00f3 desaf\u00edos may\u00fasculos. El gobierno decidi\u00f3 enfrentar estos tres frentes al un\u00edsono, lo que produjo resultados dis\u00edmiles. En el plano econ\u00f3mico, el gobierno intent\u00f3 diversos planes de estabilizaci\u00f3n que acabaron encadenados en un fracaso, la hiperinflaci\u00f3n. En el institucional, el Juicio a las Juntas fue un\u00a0 \u00e9xito en pol\u00edtica de derechos humanos, aunque hacia el fin del mandato, alzamientos militares mediante, sufri\u00f3 retrocesos. El plano pol\u00edtico present\u00f3 el mayor \u00e9xito, aunque tambi\u00e9n parcialmente trunco, logrando la entrega del poder entre civiles, aunque adelantada como consecuencia de la crisis.
